Boedi Widjaja: Public Live Art Performance at the 57th Venice Biennale, 2017
Palazzo Pisani S. Marina
June 9, 2017, 10am - 2pm
Boedi Widjaja presents his live art work, Path. 8, Invisible Cities 。 云海游 as part of Map1: Waterways, a public live art programme curated by Something Human for the International Curators Forum's Diaspora Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale.
This performance is part of the Path series, a live art series that Widjaja has developed since 2012 to explore the performative potential of place, movement, origin and identity. For the 8 installment in this series, Widjaja carries a "sail carriage" down the pathways of Venice, collecting graphite frottages of the Venetian environment along his journey. The work references the trolley, which was most used as a means of transport for goods within the city. By capturing rubbings of the city along his journey, Widjaja reflects on cartographer Jose Luis Borge's full scale map of the Venetian city, and how the image of Borge's map outlasted even the original city that it came to represent.
