Helwaser Gallery at The Armory Show, 2018
Booth 310, Pier 92
March 8 - March 11, 2018
VIP Preview Day: Wednesday, March 7, 2018
Helwaser Gallery is presenting in the Insights section of The Armory Show, 2018. This will be the gallery's third consecutive presentation at the fair, which has consistently looked at Abstract Expressionist and Pop art. Included in this exhibition are the artists Tom Wesselmann, John Chamberlain, and Theodoros Stamos.
Focused on color, each of the works on show were selected for their striking qualities. Bright, vibrant and visceral, it played a central role in both Abstract and Pop movements. From the glamor and effervescence of Tom Wesselmann's nude, to the calm transcendence of Theodoros Stamos' Infinity Fields, the artists deployed color to different visual effects, injecting life and vitality into their works.
A critical element of painting in the twentieth century, the Abstract Expressionists were known for associating color with emotion and notions of spirituality. In the 1960s and beyond, Pop artists were recognised for using color to allude to commercial pleasure, slickness and gloss. Celebrating the artistic achievements surrounding such a fundamental visual element, the booth will present more than five artists from these seminal art movements.
